Two Simple Ideas to Help Improve Website Visitor’s Impression of Your Company
When developing a website, it's essential to consider your company's structure. How does the website reflect the expectations and requirements?
Who is your primary target visitor? How can you align your brand voice, content, messaging, and imagery to reflect this?
Like so many of you, I have had intriguing experiences with websites during my marketing career journey, notably with a few exceptional people and their companies. Thank you for indulging me in giving a shout-out to Scott Shaw at Everclear Technology Marketing (https://www.everclearmarketing.com/) and John Spigarelli at Elegant Seagulls (https://www.elegantseagulls.com/)!
Onward…
Some companies find themselves in situations where they can’t pay much attention to their website, making it a static asset. There are many reasons to move on to a digital and “living” state, including customer experience, SEO, content relevance, and the impression a company leaves on a visitor.
Today, I am laser-focused on a few simple ideas that can help – even if further developing your website is on hold. I’m starting with these ideas because a notice them often.
Copyright Footer
I’m taking the liberty of addressing those old, unchanged date footers (in a range) that give some the impression of obsolescence – so consider making a change.
According to The Smart Bear, what date should you use for copyright on your website?
The copyright notice indicates the first date of publication for not only the website but also the content on the website – blogs, blurb, custom images, etc. If you want to make the website more current whilst still keeping copyright over previously published work, it’s better to use a copyright date range – i.e., the first published date to the current date – and only update the current date yearly (or as new content is published). Example: Copyright © [START DATE] – [CURRENT DATE]. [COMPANY NAME]. All rights reserved.
News as in News Releases
If your website has a news page and your latest news release is from 2023 (or prior), please consider removing the dates or rededicating a team to develop more news releases. This can help make the section of the site a tad more credible.
